U.S.S. LST 325 Week

I-75 Northbound Traffic ~ 2 hours to Cartersville from Atlanta. The guy on the truckers gas tank didn't make it! First Stop ~ Friday night, overnighter in Nashville, TN. What happens at the Wildhorse Saloon stays at the Wildhorse Saloon!

Our tour guide was Kelly in the red LST 325 shirt. Kelly was a (Boatswain Mate 3rd. class) BM3 on LST 985. Dennis was a BM3 on LST 1176. Here is a Higgin's Boat.
Our tour guide points out, "The Man, The Myth, The Legend!" Higgin's Boats were utilized to land Marines on an enemy beach head. Our tour guide, Kelly, explains the 40mm gun to Mark, a former Army man.

Troop Side - Berthing Compartment - 4 bunks high. While under Greek command, graffiti has no country boundaries. Greek sailors graffiti left between 1964 - 1997.
The Tank Deck is located in the middle of the ship. Amphib equipment / vehicles / tanks were stowed away in The Tank Deck during transit. Entrance to the Battery Shop.
Entrance to the Machine Shop. The Highline Chair is used to transport sailors, officers and the latest movies between ships while underway at sea. Delois, Karen & Mark talk strategy.

A 40mm gun on the fantail of LST 325. The radio room and its equipment is fully operational. The radio room must stay air conditioned. This equipment uses tubes for its components to function.
On the bridge, the Helmsman steers the ship on course using the gyro compass. Our guide points out the gyro compasses. Kelly points out the roll rate indicator. LST's may roll port & starboard as much as 30 - 35 degrees or more while at sea.

The SATG Webmaster was a qualified LCVP Boat Coxswain while serving in the U.S. Navy and spent many hours piloting amphib landing craft such as this Higgins Boat. "For Whom The Bell Tolls"

Dennis & Delois completes their tour of LST 325. Mark & Karen completes their tour of LST 325. A Higgins Boat approaches its berth alongside the barge of LST 325 completing a tour ride on the Ohio River.

"Farewell My Friend"

A Higgins Boat departs on another tour on the Ohio River. What a beautiful day for a boat ride on the Ohio River. If you can't take a boat, take a bike down the highway.
